A bit About Me

With his finger on the pulse of technology and consumer electronics, Jon Cohen has been breaking, fixing and enjoying technology since childhood. His father often recounts the story of how Jon loved to unplug and replug RCA cables from the back of the TV as a toddler. These days Jon contributes as a tech journalist and correspondent to SiriusXM and Rogers Media, and as a photographer. Jon uses his years of knowledge working in consumer electronics to write and inspire his “What the Tech?” column.

The CA (Cyber Acoustics) desktop docking station (DS-1000) might be the perfect addition to your office or home office. The dock features many of the most popular computer ports and the build quality of the docking station is excellent. This dock is very well priced, at the time of review the list price is under $200.00. 


The DS-1000 features a "K-Lock", so if needed you can easily lock this dock to your desk and avoid theft. Besides for the lock, the DS-1000 also features in the front of the docking station both a USB-A and USB-C port. While on the rear of the dock you will find 4 USB-A ports (3.2 Gen. 2), 2 HDMI ports (with 4k support), an ethernet port (RJ45 with support for Gigabit speed) and the power connection. As well this docking station features a USB Type-C (USB-C) cable which connects to your computer. The cable is 2.6 feet long and has compatibility with Apple's Thunderbolt (but it is not a thunderbolt port/cable).


Just plug the USB-C from the DS-1000 docking station into your laptop, and you will have an organized workspace. A typical setup for someone using this docking station would be to have on the back of the DS-1000 2 displays plugged via HDMI. Plugged into the USB ports might be an external hard drive or two, an adapter for your wireless keyboard and mouse and maybe a USB cable to charge your phone or tablet. This docking station will just make your life easier and your work space feel clean and organized.


This dock is a great solution for someone who is often on the go and wants to just take their laptop from space to space (home to work or office to office) and with the single USB-C cable the user can have instant access to a desktop setup that will improve their efficiency. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up wanting to have a docking station at each of your work locations.
